Schools use Connecticut Academy Science Assessment Program (CASAP) to analyze K-8 science programs and to plan improvements.

The CT Academy Science Assessment Program (CASAP) Version 2.5 is aligned to CT’s New Science Framework. CASAP Version 2.5 is designed to help school districts evaluate the quality of their elementary and middle school science programs by providing standards-based, written and performance assessments for grades two through eight. CASAP provides information that addresses performance in specific content areas aligned to the CT Science Framework.  In addition it assesses how well students are using science process skills. In this way, the assessments can be helpful in identifying areas of success as well to those in need of additional attention.

•  CASAP helps teachers and administrators to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of their elementary and middle school science programs.

•  CASAP provides quantitative information to guide curriculum planning, professional development activities, materials utilization, and instructional improvements.

•  CASAP materials and professional development helps districts to improve student achievement on the CAPT and forthcoming grades five and eight science assessments.

Why use CASAP in your district?

•  CASAP provides baseline data to directly compare your science curriculum to the national science standards and new CT Science Framework.

•  CASAP (written portion) Early Elementary - Grade 4 cover state standards for grades 2-4, CASAP Grade 5 cover standards grades 3-5 and CASAP Grade 8 cover standards 6-8.

•  CASAP (performance portion) includes three grade levels (3, 5, and 8) which have been researched and validated for reading level appropriateness.

•  CASAP may be used to assess all students in a grade level or only a sampling.

•  CASAP includes all the materials and training necessary to administer the written and performance assessments. CT Academy consultants work with district personnel to interpret the findings and develop improvement plans.
