Connecticut NASA Partnerships

The CT Academy and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) have partnered for more than ten years on five major projects.

1998/1999:  The CT Academy teamed with Goddard Space Flight Center to develop the Systemic NASA Assessment Program (SNAP), which surveyed Connecticut educators about their knowledge about and use of NASA materials in day-to-day teaching practices.

1999/2000:  The CT Academy employed a cadre of Academy Fellows to thoroughly review NASA materials and to develop a standards-based data matrix. The NASA Standards Matrix (NSM) enabled educators to quickly identify which NASA materials and services relate to specific Connecticut mathematics and science curriculum framework strands.

1999/2003: The CT Academy joined other CT organizations to form the CT NASA Education Coalition (CNEC) to help foster greater understanding and use of NASA educational assets throughout the state.

2004/2005:  The Sheridan Communications & Technology Middle School, New Haven School District, and Connecticut Academy for Education in Mathematics, Science & Technology, Inc. (CT Academy) jointly won a NASA Partnership for Sustainability Program grant.  The program’s title was the Connecticut NASA Education Alliance “CNEA”.  The CNEA’s activities augmented Sheridan’s NASA Explorer School 2003-2006 improvement plan.  Sheridan remains Connecticut’s only NASA Explorer School.

2005/2007:  Governor M. Jodi Rell authorized the CT Academy for Education to submit a proposal on behalf of Connecticut to hold a Science, Technology, Mathematics, and Engineering (STEM) statewide summit on October 26, 2005.  CONNvene: a Platform to Advance a Statewide STEM Dialogue and Strategy was funded by NASA, U.S. Department of Education, and the National Alliance of State Science & Mathematics Coalitions.  The Governor led the day-long Summit and is participating in the year-long study of STEM issues as they relate to education, economic development and quality of life.  The CT Academy is serving as CONNvene’s facilitator.
