Cognitive Organizer Sample

The Cognitive Organizers included on this CD are intended to support classroom-, school-, and district-level curriculum development and implementation. Each grade-level, standard specific organizer is aligned to the newly adopted CT State Department of Education’s (CSDE) K-12 Curriculum Framework: Science, the CT Mastery Test (CMT) and the CT Academic Performance Test (CAPT).

This “Cognitive Organizer” format was developed in conjunction with the Connecticut Academy for Education in Mathematics, Science & Technology, Inc.’s “Pathways to the CT Science Framework” workshop series, as well as in work with individual districts, to provide a “rapid response” mechanism for districts to use to review, modify and/or develop their science curricula. These science concepts from the CSDE Science Framework will be tested in the 2007 administration of the Third Generation CAPT-Science for grade 10 and in the 2008 administration of the Fourth Generation CMT-Science for grades 5 and 8. These organizers are designed to provide a working process toward establishing a “core” curriculum aligned to the CSDE K-12 Framework: Science; they should not be considered the defining documents on which to make all judgments regarding a district’s science curriculum.
